The electric cigarette is a fairly new piece of technology, so a lot of smokers do not fully understand it yet.  They may or may not know about all of the potential benefits of switching to an electronic cigarette, and even if they do know about the benefits, they probably are not sure how the electronic cigarette works. 

On top of all those questions, there is also the issue of which brand is the best electronic cigarette.  Let’s start with the basics.

How the Electric Cigarette Works

The idea behind the electronic cigarette is very simple.  Instead of flame turning nicotine into a smoke, the electric cigarette actually uses the airflow that is caused when the smoker inhales.  The air moves over a pad containing nicotine solution, causing it to evaporate.  The vapor then travels through the mouthpiece and into the lungs of the smoker.
 
Because of how the e-cigarette differs from ordinary cigarettes, many people believe that they are much safer for the health.  They think that the fact that there is no flame means that no toxins are being released into the air.  While some experts certainly agree with these beliefs, there is not yet any scientific evidence to back them up.  It will take quite a few years before we know for certain whether the electric cigarette is any safer than ordinary cigarettes.

There are several other reasons smokers consider switching over to the electric cigarette.  One is the significant cost savings, which has you paying about $2 per pack of cigarettes rather than $5 or more per pack.  Another has the do with the social stigma that surrounds smokers like the cloud of smoke that follows them around.  Smokers are shunned in many places because of the odor that accompanies that behavior, but electronic cigarettes do not give off an odor.

Determining the Best Electronic Cigarette

While all of these benefits can be had from all of the e-cigarettes on the market, there are a few features that can only be found in the best electronic cigarette.  Of course they all work pretty much the same, although there are significant differences in the way some of them are made. 

Most electronic cigarettes are made of five or more pieces, and unfortunately you have to take them all apart when it’s time to change the cartridge and then put them back together.  However, there is a brand called Green Smoke that produces electronic cigarettes  made of only two pieces.  These make it very easy to screw the battery right into the new cartridge, just as simple as opening a fresh pack of cigarettes. 

Also since the design is so simple, it makes the mouthpiece and atomizing chamber part of the cartridge, which means they are getting replaced with the cartridge frequently.  This will help ensure that your electronic cigarette is kept in good working order for a long time. 

Just as you need to change the oil in the car on a regular basis, so these two parts should also be changed regularly.  Not changing them results in residue buildup inside of the device, which usually causes an odor to start coming from the device when you are using it.  Also the e-cigarette will not work as well as it did because that residue causes quite a bit of wear and tear on it.

The best electronic cigarette should also provide you with a very authentic smoking experience.  It should look and feel like a standard cigarette while you are holding it.  A device that resembles a cheap piece of plastic wouldn’t fool anyone.
